the boss? an author??? you'd think being an aspiring musician and aspiring businessman would be enough for him but actually... no actually i can see it he's definitely theatrical enough for it
[ But it's delicious and creamy and fruity? Drink itttt. Yato drains half of his own glass in one go. And then his smile fades as he looks at Ichirou seriously. ]
Considering it is all well and good. But is there really anything you can do? Anything any cop, detective, or lawyer can do?
[ He sets the glass down and leans on the counter, expectant, before answering his own question. ]
No, I suppose not. Or else you guys would've done it already.
Yeah, I'd be doing it to make myself feel better. I won't pretend I'm some saint trying to rise up for the people. But you must have real low opinion of me if you think I don't have a single good reason for wanting to take action.
[ He knows someone whose life could take a nosedive, just like his did, if enough time goes by. But Yukine is so much younger and has so much more promise. It will be a blow ten times harder if Yukine comes to die. ]
Frankly, I don't care about what the public thinks. They will never understand our situation. No point in trying to cater to them.
Yato...... I know you have a good reason. please don't misunderstand. I just don't think setting things on fire is constructive. that's all it's okay if we disagree on that I know I'm a bit too stubborn for my own good
I don't think about what they think that much either but... I don't want the government or something to come down on our heads before we have a way to defend ourselves. we've been good about no one getting seriously hurt so far maybe some broken bones from last month but nothing life-changing as far as I know (if I'm wrong then...) it's naive of me but I don't want that to change
Yeah I thought so too. About Retrospec I mean. Gods wearing spandex kinda makes sense though. Especially for those Greek and Roman guys You see their clothes trying to evacuate their bodies like half the time in paintings and statues... Spandex is just what they need! Ha ha!
[ ... Now Yato's double confused? Anya is standing over him, but also over there with his sword. Kimono!Anya pauses in her attempted feeding to look over at Sword!Anya, so Yato takes the opportunity to shout at... one or both of the Anyas... ]
Anya--mmrgph!
[ Well he tries to shout, but then Kimono!Anya quickly seizes the chance to shove the maggoty fish into his mouth. It is disgusting and Yato wants to die, but Kimono!Anya looks quite proud of her achievement and claps her hands together with excitement.
"Прекрасный! Splendid! Now we will be together for a long time."
The apparition's Russian and English accents are a perfect mimicry of Anya's -- which may seem strange to someone seeing and hearing Yato instead. The apparition looks back to Anya and holds its arms out invitingly, almost as if offering a hug. Yato at its feet struggles to roll over and spit the fish back out.
"Sit with us?" the apparition says hopefully. "We will be happier together." ]
[ Hair seems to be the apparition's only weapon, so while its attacks intensify, they fall just as swiftly to Shuji and Yato's defense. When Shuji finally reaches the apparition, it will feel like cutting through someone old and frail, the bones weak, the flesh dry. When it dies, the illusion of Anya and Mista vaporizes into abstract particles, the same as the monsters from the convention did not too many months ago.
With the apparition goes the hair, and the fog around them brightens as the street lights reach through once again.
Now that they're safe(?), Yato exhales and surveys the area around them before sheathing his sword. It takes him a moment to find the slot, the tip of his blade wavering in his shaking, blight-burned hands. ]
Thanks, Shuji. You saved me. Did she get you anywhere?
[It's not Mista, Shuji reminds himself. Only a fog apparition, and something that had to be gotten rid of.
But that doesn't mean that seeing himself slice through Mista is a comfortable sight.
Shuji turns back to Yato when he's addressed, letting the scythe in his hand return to its book form. More portable, less awkward to explain if someone else is out here.]
No - no, I'm fine. What about you? Were you like that long before I got here?
[ At mention of a boyfriend, the ghost winks at Yu. You can tell because it blinks only one of its hundred eyes. Apparently it says something else too, because Yato looks at it askance, his expression flattening. ]
"Lucky" is a word for it. Turns out I'm a god, so ghosts are my domain. First time everyone else's been able to see 'em too, though.
[ Yato squints at Majima for a moment. The impulse to fight him is strong. But Yato can't argue too much when he's opted for self-help instead of the hospital more than a few times himself. For monetary reasons, but all the same.
[ Yato's always known about Yamato's scrappiness, but it isn't often that he gets to see Yamato fight with the real intent to kill. It's a rare treat, but Yato doesn't have much time to watch; wolves start to appear from the mist with Yato in their sights, capitalizing on the fox's distraction. He scowls and draws the only weapon left to him: his trusty old pocket knife, blade out in a flash. Things might get ugly, but he'll make it work.
Yamato has the more fearsome opponent in the huge fox, its bared teeth like daggers. It gives a bassy yip when Yamato's sword bites into it, but that won't stop it from trying to snap and claw at Yamato with little to no sense of self-preservation. Relentless, it seems not to fear death.
Just beyond the fox, the ghostly girl in the white robe and triangular headband smiles upon the scene. She's so composed and her expression so mild that she seems wildly out of place. Between hurling a wolf past him and slamming another one to the ground so he can stab it, Yato shouts at her even though he knows it'll be futile: ]
Hiiro! Stop this!
[ Hiiro continues to smile, perhaps with a hint of amusement. "Silly Yato. Where will you go if I do?" she says, her voice uncommonly pleasant. "Humans change. Isn't that what's happening right now? Everyone will leave you behind."
Her words are becoming familiar, and Yato clenches his jaw as he continues to fight, forced to listen.
"You are an evil god. Will Hiyori and Yukine continue to like you?" Hiiro continues, ever pleasant. "But we will never betray you. We will always be by your side. Let's go back together. Back to Father's place. Father and I..." She speaks the next words so simply that it's hard to deny that this is her truth. "We both love you." ]
[Yato's probably too occupied to care at the moment, but there's something noticeably different in Yasusada's movements, as he darts and swings. Knowledge that isn't his floods through his body these days, mingling with the experience he's built up over his own years. He's faster, sharper--and while he's always been more disciplined in his fighting style compared to Yato's resourcefulness, there's an edge to his techniques now, as if they'd been honed by years of actual battles.
Even so, he has his hands full with the fox, and its aggression leaves him no room to go to Yato's side. Under normal circumstances, he'd simply trust Yato's abilities and leave him to it, but he hears Hiiro's words just as clearly as Yato does. Yato hadn't told him much about her, but at this point it doesn't matter--what she's saying is as much a threat as the claws swiping at his legs.]
Yato!
[Even if there was something useful he could say, Yasusada's mind is far too focused on fighting to string together meaningful words. Still, he shouts his friend's name on reflex, automatically trying to snap Yato's attention away from her. It's a different mindset he's fallen into, one entirely focused on survival.
Right now, in this moment, Hiiro is more of a threat to them than the monster he's fighting, and as soon as he sees an opening, he takes it--dodging the fox and running, full speed and blade at the ready, towards Hiiro.]
[ Weakened by the flames, the hair snaps easily when Minako pulls. Yato watches her example, and once the fire has a chance to eat away at the lines restraining him, he rips them away and coughs for air.
Not-Anya watches all this with growing dismay, then annoyance. She begins to motion with her hand again and more hair roils in from beyong the fog, which is when Yato makes a choice. As much as this looks like Anya and sounds like Anya, Minako's declaration that this isn't Anya is increasingly convincing. He'll trust her judgment -- and pounce to tackle the apparition, a business-like pocket knife in his hand and to Not-Anya's throat when they hit the floor.
The hair all around them falls motionless then, and the clearing becomes quiet except for the sound of their breathing and shuffling.
"Why...?" the apparition asks, stricken. The hurt is shockingly genuine, and bearing the full brunt of the sorrow in the apparition's (Anya's) eyes, Yato finds himself hesitating once again, caught up in the illusion. His knife doesn't stray, but it doesn't move either.
He's going to need a bit more help, sorry Minako... ]
[Minako walks over once it falls quiet, Pyro Jack trailing behind her just in case. Seeing Ryoji so upset this up close...it's an unfortunately common sight in recent months, and she's no less affected by it, even knowing it's not really him. Her hands itch to cup that face between her hands and offer comfort. So she laces fingers tightly into themselves, stopping herself right there.]
Because whatever you are, mind games that take advantage of our connections to our loved ones is the worst, most despicable way to get the upper hand.
[ This will be the first sushi Yato is glad to turn down...
Yato feels his hands go free, and he stumbles to his feet coughing for breath. A look of surprise and dismay flashes across the apparition of Anya and Mikleo, quickly replaced by fury at Sorey. Yet it doesn't seem to be the brawling type, because it doesn't attempt to attack Yato or Sorey personally. Instead it stays squarely in place, content to let the hair do its bidding.
The sea of hair continues to surge toward Sorey and Yato both. The appariton is right there in front of them, fearless and apparently unthinking of the possibility that anyone might ever attack it. Attack or escape? They only have a few seconds to decide, and with Yato still dizzy and unarmed, it looks like the choice is up to Sorey. ]
Hiiro's voice is patient, gently chiding. It comes from right in front of them, because it seems she can teleport now. She's just visible with that same relaxed smile, her white robes and triangular headband even more ghostly in the fog. Yato pointedly ignores her and hurries past, dragging Yukine along with him.
"He can't save you, you know," she says pleasantly as they pass. It's hard to tell who she's talking to. ]
[ Yato sees a clue, maybe. He slaps away Ponsuke's claws and dangles the tanuki by one foot so that he can dislodge the knife sticking out of Ponsuke's back. He offers the knife to Chiyo. ]
Does this work?

will yato ever live to own $5000 in all his immortal life
[ Yato knows a bit now about Kashuu and how he was literally a sword given a body in his other life (thanks Yams), so Kashuu's enhanced skill doesn't come as a surprise. If anything Yato assumed it, because Yaboku "Yeah It's Fine If He Shoots Me I Can Probably Cut Bullets" Tomioka is all about the flamingest trials by fire for both him and the people around him, to the dismay of all.
He cuts down the wolves who come at him, pleased when they prove more fragile than in his memories. Though their claws and fangs feel just as sharp, they suffer from blows as easily as normal animals would, and vaporize into pixels when they die. With Kashuu slashing up a storm behind him, this fight should be a piece of cake.
... Until a massive demon koi fish, also bearing a single-eyed mask, swoops down from Yato's side with its mouth gaping to swallow the two of them whole. Yato might potentially jump out of the way in time, but he can't without Kashuu, so he abandons the fight to try and shove Kashuu from behind until they're out of the fish's path. ]
[He could also probably jump out of the way on time, but he's in the middle of battling off one of the wolves and so Yato going turbo and knocking them out of the way is actually helpful this time! The koi fish, undeterred, swoops back up and begins circling as though it intends to try again. Who knows why, considering these two are skin and bones and would not make a good meal.]
