fun facts!

☄ Pre-Recolle History

♛ Grew up in a small-time suburban town, borderline countryside.
♛ His mom died at childbirth. His dad was emotionally and physically abusive, the type to smile and convince Yato that it was for his own good. Dad claimed to care for Yato, and in some ways he did: he provided well for Yato materially, ultimately bailed him out of bad situations, and tried to be close in a superficial father-son kind of way. In reality, he treated Yato more like a plaything and smothered Yato's attempts to be independent from an early age, in part by telling him not to speak to anyone but Dad.
♛ Homeschooled by Dad up through middle school. Yato studied hard and learned fast to earn his dad's approval despite a congealing sense of fear toward him; academics were one of the few things it was easy to earn praise for. He didn't get to play much with other kids, so he spent a lot of time exploring solo activities and running around outdoors. A quiet but wide-eyed kid.
♛ Entered public high school. He didn't connect very well with his peers from the get-go, confused by their social intricacies and hesitant to break into any friend group. Initially kept to himself and focused on his grades.
♛ Became something of a lone wolf. His smarts, athleticism, and reclusiveness gave off a cool kid vibe to his peers. Unfortunately, the first person to try to tap into his potential was a delinquent.
♛ Fell in with the delinquent punk crowd, where he got the nickname Yato. They weren't all bad people, but they were rebels prone to fights and petty crime. As Yato's first friends, they molded his perception of fun (reckless is better), authority (bad), strength (physical toughness), and morals (loose). Their identity became his identity. He gradually became louder and more outspoken.
♛ By the end of high school, he made up his mind to completely cut ties with his dad. When he turned 18, he took his bicycle, whatever he could carry, and left town without a word. He's still afraid that his dad will try to reconnect with him again.
♛ Hopped a few towns before arriving in Recolle. He could never keep a job for long. At his most desperate, he would seek work from more familiar elements: gangs, thugs, and so on. He quickly became acquainted with the darker desires and harsh realities of adult life, and learned to do what he needed to do to survive. But he would inevitably tire of the senselessness of violence and move on to the next town in hopes of wiping his slate clean and starting again.
♛ Recolle was the holy grail. People were much kinder and more likely to feed him, crime was low, and employment opportunities were amazing. Yato hoped that it would be his ticket to a normal, peaceful life. Unfortunately, Yato is not normal or peaceful himself, so he struggles... but the environment in the city is such that he can allow himself to let loose and have a little fun. He is trying his best to stay on the right side of the law...

☄ General

♛ Always carries a Barely Legal Pocket Knife in his pocket. To fight, and to carve his name and phone number into bathroom stalls like a real O.G. self-marketer. Saved up a month's worth of lunch money in high school to be able to afford it. It's a Benchmade reverse tanto folding knife.
♛ Sells himself as a Delivery King, but he means "delivery" more in a biblical sense than a parcel delivery sense. Still, he gets a lot of parcel delivery jobs.
♛ His phone is a shitty but sturdy five-year-old flip model. He's still on his dad's family plan.
♛ Types very properly for the most part because it's too hard to do otherwise with his phone keypad.
♛ Shower bastions: the Wolf apartment (couresy of Jade), Anya's house, [Strider house?].
♛ Goes to Koutarou's atelier for art projects. Actually a decent artist.
♛ Feels most at home in Ainsley's elementary school classroom.
♛ Does not have a driver's license. His bicycle is about to give up the ghost.
♛ His bicycle's name is Bike Bro. He's had it ever since he left his dad's home. It was run over by an eighteen-wheeler once, but Yato hammered it back into shape. It shows.
♛ Didn't care much for flowers until he worked at Mikorin's flower shop. Now he has an appreciation for all the hard work that goes into caring for them.
♛ Accidentally joined the yakuza once.
♛ Splurged on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera. He'll need to save up to buy accessories, though...

☄ Employment history (partial)

FORMER:

♛ Pre-Recolle: Once, Yato was commissioned to make a mascot-like fox outfit. It was a new type of request, but he tackled the project with gusto. He was very proud of the result! Until he handed it over to the customer, who promptly strapped a dildo to it. This was Yato's introduction to the world of furries.
♛ Fired from an arcade for getting into an altercation with an obnoxious customer who turned out to be a Big Deal. He occasionally revisits for Salt Hour with Aki.
♛ Fired(?) from Mikorin's flower shop. A thug with beef from Yato's past tried to set the shop on fire. Yato gave him a beating and probably felt too good about it afterward, seeing as how... things were still on fire...
♛ Let go from Majima's Cabaret Club. Got too many complaints from customers. An amicable parting.

CURRENT:

♛ Guards Mikorin's flower shop? Probably mostly from bugs??
♛ Sporadically assists with deliveries at Minako's cupcake shop.
♛ Shows up with deliveries to Yukiko's family's bed and breakfast. Spends too much time trying to touch up on his Japanese by talking to her. Will probably get fired.
♛ Dogsits for Ainsley and Aki.
♛ Bar help at the Inkwell.
♛ Occasionally gets commissions for art. Sometimes risque art...
♛ Producer for Anya.

WISH-GRANTING SERVICE:

♛ Checks in on Goro Akechi's mother. Includes leaving meals out for her when she's been working especially hard.
