[Perfect! That makes this easier. Toshi picks up the cake plate and offers it up. There's a wobbly "Welcome home" written on top-- listen, don't judge the handwriting, he's a decent cook but not a decorator. Just be glad he included sprinkles.]
Figured I'd get you something nice, since you've got a real house with your own room and all now.
[Whether or not this will be a quick thing is probably going to depend on Yato's reaction.]
When he sees the words written on the cake, Yato says nothing for a few long seconds. Then he walks out into the kitchen and sets his comic aside so that he can look at the cake in more detail. ]
[ Perhaps it's Yato's own experience trying zealously to surprise his loved ones with gifts that makes him appreciate this all the more. A lot of effort and excitement goes into keeping things secret before a big reveal, even moreso when you're trying to surprise someone you live and work with.
A wobbly smile spreads across his face, and he goes right at Toshi for a big hug. What is this fond and fuzzy feeling??
He says warmly: ]
Thanks, Toshi. This is the best cake I've ever gotten.

... Did you make this?
[ cuz it sure as hell doesn't look professional ]

Yeah. Did it at the bar so I could make sure you wouldn't see it early.
[He's pretty proud of himself for that.]

Toshi puts the cake down so he won't drop it when Yato comes in for the hug and gives him a good, solid squeeze back.]
Yeah, hold off on saying that until you taste it. I've never baked before, so it still might poison you.
[Ah, self-deprecating jokes.]

Don't worry. For me, food poisoning is a thing of the past!
[ Maybe Toshi has noticed that Yato... never uses the toilet... ]

[From now on, Toshi is just going to assume that anything weird that happens around Yato is some kind of deity related thing. It makes things easier.]
Still. Tell me if it tastes bad, okay? Even if I can't poison you, I don't wanna offend your taste buds.

[ He slices two pieces and serves them both up. Now for a taste!! ]
By the way, I've been wondering something. What's going on with you and the boss?
no subject
[Okay, he had a bite of cake halfway to his mouth, but that comment makes him pause and blink at Yato in confusion.]
Going on with me and the boss? Pretty sure things are the same as usual, aren't they?
